New “Viagra” Condom Likely soon in Europe

10th June 2011

Durex, the manufacturers whose name is synonymous with condom are applying for full regulatory approval of what has been dubbed the Viagra condom. The new condom is impregnated with a gel which is absorbed by the penis and which makes it stronger for longer, thus enhancing the pleasure of sex.

The gel has been engineered by Futura Medical PLC a biotech company which specializes in transdermal products, mainly for sexual health and pain relief. The gel contains vasodilators which boost the blood flow in the penis which improves its functioning.

Viagra CondomThe new condom has been years in the research stage as the lubricants, latex of the condom and the vasodilators had to work in synchronicity without any detrimental effects to the other substances. It seems that the product has reached the final stages now so if it gains the approval of the regulators, it will hit the shelves in pharmacies and other outlets in 2012. However, at the moment approval is only being sought from the European regulators, so Transatlantic would-be buyers may have to buy the new condom online.

The product comes at a time when there are more sexually transmitted disease among the older age group than before, because of Viagra. The theory is that elderly men are so thrilled at regaining some of their virility by using the little blue pill that they are having unsafe sex, perhaps because they believe that there is no need for contraception if they are having sex with post-menopausal women. The problem is that they become indiscriminate with their sexual partners and pick up STDs. Some men have sex with a number of different partners, and this has cause marital break ups after many years of marriage. The Viagra condom may not keep an elderly husband faithful, but it will prevent him from transmitting a sexual disease to his partner.

The new condoms will be available over the counter-no prescription needed, and will be on sale with the wide variety of ribbed and ‘exotic’ ultra thin condoms already on the market. It raises the question, will competitors like Cialis and Levitra launch rival condoms?

Many men who have erectile dysfunctions do not wear condoms because it causes them to have psychological problems and so they fail to get a lasting erection, and also some men refuse to wear condoms because they can desensitize the penis. The gel in the new Viagra condom is essential to enhance a man’s performance, so Durex are hoping that more men than ever before will start to wear their products. Governments in Europe no doubt also hope this will be the case as they will have to spend less on the health care of elderly sex-fiends who are reckless about practicing safe sex.

It is not only the elderly who will benefit from these condoms, but also the stressed executive who fails to get an erection every time. It’s not only the elderly who have erectile dysfunction; it’s just that men don’t talk about such problems. If they did, there would be fewer stigmas attached to having erectile dysfunction.
