Some UK doctors have recently announced that a man’s diet can reduce balding. If a diet is lacking in protein, which is obtained from a variety of sources, including meat, poultry and pulses, it can increase the likelihood of the man balding prematurely. Keratin, the hormone which promotes hair growth is made in the body from the protein we consume. A lack of iron in a man’s (or woman’s) diet can also contribute to hair loss, so foods that are rich in iron should be added to the diet. These are foods such as liver, broccoli, and nuts, so if you need to boost your intake of iron snack on a mixture of nuts including walnuts which contain Omega-3 fatty acids which are so often lacking in our diet.
Genetic factors also affect whether or not a man starts to bald prematurely and scientists are trying to come up with ways of preventing hair loss which typically begins in men when they are in their twenties and thirties. So far they have come up with a product Procepia which they claim will stimulate hair growth and help to prevent baldness.
Unfortunately stress can also cause hair loss and in extreme cases this can be total so everyone should take time out and relax more. Try yoga exercises to clear the mind and take some exercise. Take that much needed vacation and unwind to prevent stress leading to a more serious health issue than baldness. Testosterone levels increase when a man is stressed and these are a cause of hair loss.
Currently there is only one FDA approved treatment for hair loss, called Propecia. It comes in 1mg tablets and is known to help upto 90% of men who use it.
If Propecia isn't for you, then think carefully about revamping your diet and although you may not worry about your baldness, there are others who do and changing your intake of food can be valuable for your overall health. The Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest in the world and is also delicious, why not try some of the dishes from Mediterranean countries and see what you’ve been missing all these years?
